Yes, Orcas Island is hilly, but the joys of the view are amazing. Check out Wildlife Cycles in Eastsound for all the bike care you will need.
The San Juan Islands are an iconic cycling destination. Orcas
Island is hilly but a good place to start if for no other reason
than you won’t have to pay an additional ferry fare if you choose
to ride San Juan and Lopez islands on the way back to Anacortes.
Visit them in the opposite order and you’ll need an additional
ticket for each trip.
Hi Lance,
We want to ride with our Scouts in the San Juans in June, hitting Shaw, Orcas, Lopez, and San Juan. We’ll be bringing a safety vehicle. I didn’t realize that we’d be paying for inter-island transport :-(. If we want to hit them all, do I just buy a one-way ticket to Orcas, and then a ticket from Orcas to Shaw? Or can I buy a ticket to Shaw and take the long way around? Also, are cyclists charged for each island, or do they pay once?
Thanks!
Hi Julie –
So sorry you’ve waited a week for this. I’m looking into what costs you might face, and will get back to you ASAP.
