Caroline Herring, American singer & songwriter performs October 4 on Orcas Island

Caroline HerringThe Orcas Center is pleased to welcome Caroline Herring, American singer and songwriter, on October 4th. Tickets are $25/$21 members / $15 students.

Since her debut as one of the “Best New Acts of Austin” (Austin American Statesman) just over a decade ago, Caroline has been heralded as “the social justice songwriter of her generation,” (Sojurner) and likened to Joan Baez, Lucinda Williams, and Nancy Griffith, to name a few. Covering issues from coal-mining to civil rights to child-raising, her clear voice and lyrical guitar bring voice to the complex, unspoken issues in modern society in compositions influenced by tradition, and a deep rooting in the American South.

Caroline has been profiled on NPR’s “All Things Considered,” has been a guest on “A Prairie Home Companion,” and was the only American representative to the prestigious Cecil Sharp Project in England. Her recent album, “Camilla,” was named in the top ten Best Folk Albums of 2012 by About Entertainment, and one of the Best Albums of 2012 by Songlines Magazine. Of her performances, Mary Chapin Carpenter said, “as a witness, a historian, a truth-teller, a gypsy, a mother, a sister, a lover, Herring takes the listener on a journey with her head and her heart, and there is no more enlightening experience one could have.”  Visit her website for more information.
